Last week I walked into my daughter’s school and the office secretary was nibbling away on something that looked like a cross between a brownie and a chocolate chip cookie. My sweet tooth radar was instantly buzzing. I’d never heard of cookie dough brownies, and by the way the rest of the staff was reacting to them, I was sure my family would love them. I promptly set out to recreate my own at home.
Given that I have a busy family to manage, I used a brownie mix. I would imagine that if you have the time to make brownies from scratch, this recipe would taste even better.
First, I made the brownie batter according to the directions. My kids love milk chocolate brownies, so I went with those…
Here’s the batter in my 9 x 13 dish…
Next, I made the cookie dough by following the directions on the back of my favorite Ghirardelli milk chocolate chips bag…
You probably noticed the M&M’s. I had some hanging around in my freezer, so I used 1 cup of chocolate chips and 1 cup of M&M’s.
Next, I put medium-sized piles of the dough all around the top of the brownies.
Here’s where you have to pay attention a bit. I baked the brownies according to the package directions plus about 6-8 extra minutes. I did check them a few times to be sure the fork came out pretty dry before taking them out. Use your judgement.
They were great- still a little gooey and warm when I served them for dessert when my kids inhaled them for dessert!
Happy baking!
