This weekend we were invited to a dog birthday party! Our friends have a golden retriever who turned one, and they hosted 6 dogs and their families for a celebration.
Even though the invitation said “no gifts”, I decided to try my hand at homemade dog treats. I have read many times how easy they are to make. I looked at some recipes online and checked to see what ingredients I had on hand. I ended up creating my own recipe. From start to finish, it took less than an hour.
Here’s what you will need:
- 2 cups of flour. King Arthur is my favorite!
- 2 ripe bananas mashed
- 1 cup creamy peanut butter.
- 1/2 cup beef stock
- 1/2 cup raw, unsalted sunflower seeds
- cookie cutter of choice (I used a star but if you want a cute bone-shaped cutter set with a few different sizes, you can find one here).
Now, to make them:
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
- Mash bananas in a bowl. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, peanut butter, banana, and sunflower seeds.
- Add in beef broth and stir all ingredients to combine.
- Mixture will be thick.
Flour a clean counter top area and work dough into a ball with your hands. Roll out to 1-1.5 inch thick, and cut out your biscuits. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 17-18 minutes.
Store in a cool dry place. A mason jar is a great way to give them as a gift. Recipe yields approximately 3 dozen medium-sized biscuits.
I’m sorry to say I can’t report on how they taste, but from the way my dog gobbled the extras up, I’d say they were a hit!
Enjoy!
