Do you know how to install a doorknob? This basic DIY skill will allow you to easily upgrade the look of your doors!
I have no issue admitting that the idea of changing all of the doorknobs over in my house from brass to black seemed daunting. It wasn’t that we had 26 we needed to switch. It was that I didn’t actually know how to install a doorknob! Once I figured out how to do it, things moved along smoothly. Each took about ten minutes, so my husband and I did them in batches. Honestly, this could not be easier. In my video, you’ll see just how simple this is! You just need a screwdriver and some patience. The only issue I ran into was making sure the outside plate was facing the right direction. I did one wrong and had to take the whole thing off so it pays to double-check your work before screwing everything in.
Does doorknob quality matter?
One thing that I get asked is how important it is to buy really nice doorknobs. There clearly is not a right answer to this as it depends how you prioritize it in your decorating budget. I personally think Schlage makes great doorknobs like the ones we just put in all over the house. If you do have a flexible decorating budget, brands like Baldwin or Emtek are gorgeous for sure.
